Fairway Chief of Police J.P. Thurlo was among the last to speak at Oswald's funeral service. The police chief fought through tears at times to deliver his remarks.

Thurlo described the incredible bravery and dedication to his duty during the deadly incident that resulted in Oswald's death.

"They went all the way to the door. They knew evil was behind it. Then they did their duty without hesitation to protect the community," Thurlo said of the officers who responded to the police pursuit and shootout at a Mission, Kansas, Quiktrip.
