Reality TV Legend: Everybody Loves New KCI All-Gender Restrooms

On this WAYBACK WEDNESDAY we remember a local star from back when MTV still played some music videos . . . Or even back when people still watched MTV. 

Don't make fun of TKC fading into nostalgia . . . Sniffle. It turns out that a lot of people still remember Dan Renzi.

He had many "adventures" around Kansas City . . . And even those who don't respect his politics should still admire his admirable work as a nurse at the epicenter of the pandemic. 

Accordingly . . .

TKC persepctive . . . It turns out that writing for travel mags is much less rewarding and a bit less dignified than cleaning out bed pans. 

Sure . . . TKC loves toilet humor but we doubt that ANYBODY really gives a crap about where they do their business. 

Meanwhile . . . Drop-offs & pickups are still a New KCI embarrassment and the cell phone lot only serves as proof of bad design. 

In fairness, of course, we're happy to see Dan Renzi doing well and contributing to the local discourse: 

City officials praised the new facility as a model for the airport of the future, with plenty of natural light, public art, and branches of local restaurants instead of corporate chains. But the new airport did introduce a controversial feature: All-gender restrooms.

When the terminal debuted, social media erupted with protests about forcing men and women to use restrooms together. One keyboard warrior referred to the change as “tax payer funded perversion.”  

After travelers actually use the bathrooms, though, complaints have been few.

The new toilet stalls at KCI are similar to a bathroom we would use at home: a fully private room with a real door and walls that extend from floor to ceiling. There are no gaps offering glimpses of who is inside, and each stall has its own ventilation fan. Except for the communal hand washing, the process is rather luxe—and entirely private.
