The historic spate of local killing starts the week again.
Remember, at this time last year there were only 96 homicides -- That's a 25% spike year to date. In 2020, KCMO's deadliest year, at this date, local killings only numbered 117.
Accordingly, here's aftermath info on the latest, local spate of deadly violence.
Homicide 22nd and 71 Hwy
Tonight just after 11pm officers were dispatched to Northbound 71 Hwy just south of 22nd street, on the highway, on a shooting call.
On arrival officers located a vehicle stopped on the side of the highway.
Inside the vehicle officers located two shooting victims. Officers summoned EMS to the scene for treatment and victim transport.
One victim, an adult teen male, was taken to the hospital by EMS and is listed in critical condition. A second victim a juvenile teen male was taken to the hospital by EMS and was declared deceased at the hospital.
Investigation indicates the victim vehicle was traveling on the highway when shots were fired into the vehicle from an unknown vehicle, striking the victims.
Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators are processing the scene for evidence to get a better idea of what led up to the shooting.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
