Kansas City Downtown Council Claims Sketchy COVID Triumph

I guess nobody told the Downtown Council about the new election season variant of COVID that's inspiring many people to dust off their masks and start washing their hands again.

Also, I guess these guys forgot about the commercial real estate collapse underway because the pandemic fundamentally changed how Americans view office space.

Also . . .

I don't know . . . We can throw around phony numbers & press releases but we still don't see many people inside the loop on the weekdays. Even during the Summer.

One last thing . . .

If downtown Kansas City is doing so great . . . Why is that restaurant space still empty right next to 12th & Main toy train streetcar stop on the starter line???

It seems like with so many proclamations of victory and public transit conquest . . . Somebody might want to take advantage of the situation . . . Instead, that spot has sat empty for about two years.

That's TKC ground level observation because we live in the shadow of Downtown Kansas City.

Of course, we'll share a more optimistic perspective . . .

From the onset of the pandemic, the story of Downtown Kansas City has been one of incredible resiliency. In the face of great challenges and uncertainty, we remained steadfast and strong because of our unrelenting dedication over the past two decades to transform Downtown from a single-use office district into a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood animated by residents, visitors, and employees.

Downtown Kansas City has charted a course that many other cities may need to follow on the path to recovery; mixing live and work together in a thriving, walkable setting. Downtown benefits from a substantial volume of housing intermixed with offices, health care, and education; a strong convention and tourism business; a vibrant arts and culture scene; as well as award-winning restaurants and retail activating our ground floor spaces. The interactivity of these diverse uses has accounted to a large degree for Downtown’s success and will be the key to a full revival.
