Kansas City 2023 Homicide #130: Gunfire Victim Found On Prospect Front Lawn

Local carnage continues despite the beautiful weather as we witness the latest local killing the keeps KCMO on a horrific pace . . . A nearly 20% spike in homicide year to date and nearly matching 2020's pace -- The deadliest year in local history.

Here's the report . . .

Homicide 2900 block Prospect

On 08/30/23 just after 5:30am officers were dispatched on a Medical Nature Unknown advising of a male lying on the ground.

Officers on scene were patrolling the area at the time the call was dispatched and were able to immediately locate an adult male victim in the front yard of a residence unresponsive. The victim appeared to be suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers checked for any signs of life and were met with negative results. EMS responded to the scene and declared the victim deceased.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene for processing and gathering evidence, as well as speaking with any potential witnesses.

Detectives do not currently have any persons of interest in police custody and this investigation is considered on-going.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.

KCPD locate homicide victim in yard in 2900 block of Prospect Avenue

The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department is responding to a homicide Wednesday morning in the 2900 block of Prospect Avenue.

KCPD responding to deadly shooting on 29th and Prospect

Around 5:30 a.m. officers responded to 29th and Prospect where they found an man unresponsive suffering from gunshot wounds.
