The 2nd murder for Monday amid an oppressive Kansas City heatwave . . . Here is the first report:
Homicide 2000 block of Wheeling
This morning just after 8:30 am officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 2000 block of Wheeling on a cutting call.
On arrival officers were directed inside an apartment there where they located an adult male unresponsive with significant injuries.
Officers summoned EMS into the scene who declared the victim deceased here at the scene.
Responding officers detained a subject of interest at the scene for further investigation.
Homicide detectives are at the scene speaking with people who were here when officers arrived and canvassing for additional witnesses. Crime scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence as well.
Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was injured during an interaction between him and the suspect inside the apartment. Detectives are not searching for any additional suspects at this time.
We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
