Kansas City 2023 Homicide #127: Police Investigate Violent Northland Death

The latest local killing occurred on the nice side of the bridge yet it keeps the KCMO homicide count moving toward a record pace . . . 24% higher than last year and ahead of 2020's pace . . . The deadliest year in our history.

Here's the first report . . .

Homicide 400 block of NW 88th St 

On 8/18/2023 just after 12 am, officers were dispatched to 400 block of NW 88th St. on a reported prowler call.

Upon arrival, officers located an unknown male in the rear of the dispatched residence.  Officers detained this individual prompting further investigation.

After preliminary investigations, detectives were directed to a residence in the 400 block of NW 88th Ter and was given access by the occupants of the residence. Officers then discovered an adult male who was unresponsive and suffering from apparent bodily trauma.  EMS responded and declared the victim deceased.

There is a subject of interest in custody.  The circumstances surrounding the homicide are unknown at this time.

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Personnel have responded to the scene.  They will be processing the scene to recover any evidence and speaking to any potential witnesses.

There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information provided to TIPS which leads to an arrest in the case.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
