Two things in this post . . .
The Jackson County push to remove the Exec is a long shot BUT our blog community always errors on the side of supporting grassroots movements.
Meanwhile . . .
Here's another quick story from the front lines of the assessment fight wherein DOCUMENTING YOUR CLAIM is always the best idea . . . Here's the word and more courthouse perspective . . .
"We're entering a stage where the County is "creating" data and adding it to files. I was on a zoom call on Monday with a widow that I was helping with her appeal, and I asked the Tyler person when a physical inspection was done on her property, the answer was, "I don't see any notes in the file that indicates that an inspection was done at all." Then she caught herself and said, "Oh, it says here that inspectors knocked on the door in August 2021 and no one answered." The widow immediately said, "That's a lie. I stay at home nearly all the time and always answer the door. That didn't happen."
"Also, people tell me that the Sunshine requests should take only about 5 minutes to process. But the County is taking at least 30 days to provide those. I don't think it is beyond the realm of possibility that the County is going out to take photos AFTER the Sunshine request comes in to provide a photo. There has to be some reason why the County still has not posted current photos for most of the properties if they have already taken the photos during the last two years, and even after Gail McCann Beatty told the County Legislature in June that all the photos had been updated.
