Newsflash: Kansas City Voters Don't Care About Local Democracy

A Sunday newspaper column isn't exactly groundbreaking but we admire the curt reminder about local elections and the attempt to shame the electorate. 

However . . . Here's a minor quibble . . .

The author seems to mistakenly believe that the number of registered voters represent the total of KC's population . . . In fact, there are SO MANY MORE PEOPLE WHO NEVER REGISTER TO VOTE.

And so . . . The math is even worse . . .

Consider eligible voters who never bother to register and subsequently ignore local elections as part of a worsening disinterest in municipal affairs. 

Accordingly . . .  Here's even more bad news . . .

"Civics lesson aside, the point I’m trying to make is that council elections can be transformative in Kansas City if we wield our power intentionally. These elections can significantly shape our city four years at a time. Unfortunately, 86.69% of the city’s residents did not use their voice at the ballot box this past election."
