Kansas City Playlist: Eras Eternal

Loyal readers saw this one coming a mile away . . . Tonight we take a moment to roundup the greatest concert tour the world has ever witnessed since the last celebrity excursion that offered remarkably similar billing.

Still . . .

We refuse to fade into cynicism and, instead, would rather share a bit of news about the adventures of the local NEXTGEN which give us hope even if their antics also seem strangely familiar . . .

Taylor Swift Reveals the 'Saddest,' 'Most Scathing' & 'Most Wistfully Romantic' Songs She's Ever Written

"It was an album that was the most precious to me because of its vast extremes. It was unfiltered and potent," she said of 2010's Speak Now.

Accordingly . . . Tonight's www.TonysKansasCity.com playlist would be a bit forced if we pretended to have an understanding of the Taylor Swift catalog . . .

UPDATE: It kinda seems like false advertising not to include any Taylor song at all. This is the only tune of hers that we really know and the stripped down version is nice given that we think it takes more talent to perform to smaller rooms over arenas wherein legions of staffers help the effort.

And so . . . Now, we take a quickie musical journey thorough OTHER EPIC TOURS that have also made their way through Kansas City . . .

The Beatles playing at Municipal Stadium in 1964 still stands out in the memory of our parents and provides a perfect way to start the music . . . We'll go with one of their more political tunes from the early part of their career given that the current property tax fight in Jackson County is more important than any of this stuff when it comes to a pressing issue that impact locals . . .

KC historians have already made the comparison to Michael Jackson's Victory Tour that arrived in KCMO in 1984 . . . Even the high prices of today's tickets don't compare to the abominable ticket lottery system that the "king of pop" enforced against his most loyal fans.

The Rolling Stones are about to hit their 80s and will likely launch ANOTHER last tour . . . They'll likely include Kansas City just like all their other last tours have . . .

Elton John performed his last show this weekend . . . He has played Kansas City many times and served as the opener for the Sprint Center . . .

Garth Brooks played for half a month in 2007 when the downtwon hype machine wanted to distract from disappointment . . . It was a historic event that even overshadowed has fading voice toward the end of the extravaganza.

Madonna didn't visit Kansas City until she was well past her prime but she created a sensation nevertheless . . . Her visit was in 2012, the same year she played the Super bowl halftime show . . .

Elvis Performed five times in Kansas City and just two months before he died. As always, a tribute to the king of rock 'n roll seems like an appropriate end to our musical interlude this evening.

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe & fun Saturday night.
