Kansas City Playlist: Climate Change To Blame For Evergy FAIL!?!

You know it's coming . . .

We've already seen a preview from lesser social media outlets and trolls looking to shift blame.

The talking point for municipal FAIL in 2023 . . .

Don't blame years of deferred maintenance, skyrocketing rates/taxes or the lack of government investment in new technologies . . . Climate change is the cause of nearly every civic crisis up to and including thousands of Kansas City residents who are without power, again, this evening.

A few examples . . .

Climate change wrecked the streetcar . . .

Heat puts KC Streetcar out of service for weeks. Are rails vulnerable to climate change?

The buckling of one of the Kansas City Streetcar rails could be a sign of future impacts of climate change on infrastructure in the metro, as well as around the world.

Skyfall (and not rampant inflation sparked by printing free money like cofetti) is to blame for the housing crisis . . .

Climate change and the affordable housing crisis

Hello, superhero aficionados, This was a superhero heavy weekend for me and my pals between Awesome Con and seeing "The Flash." Imagine my joy when the very familiar sound of a salsa song called " Pedro Navaja " played on the screen in a scene involving young Barry Allen and his mother.

And the rising tides are no responsible for tragic domestic violence . . .

Climate change heightens threats of violence against women and girls

Climate change and environmental degradation are escalating the risk and prevalence of violence against women and girls across the world, a UN-appointed independent human rights expert warned on Wednesday.

Ironically, this rhetorical shell game absolves elected leaders and corporations of any culpability and, instead, blames plebs driving SUVs, anybody who forgets to recycle or the schmucks who demand a plastic straw and Starbucks instead of just using the sippy cup provided.

It would be clever if it wasn't so obvious.

And so . . .

We might not dance to the music but that doesn't mean we don't know this tune by heart. And that's why climate change ALLEGATIONS and thousands of locals left in the dark for two days in a row inspires our www.TonysKansasCity.com playlist for tonight . . .

We start with an 80s pop-rock classic dedicated to the heat . . .

This 1999 anthem from Rage Against The Machine typifies Gen-X rage that is now mostly directed at Door-dash gig workers asking for a tip . . .

This one feels like a 90s song BUT it's really a 2002 remake of a wonderful Joni Mitchell tune from 1970 and it still holds up nicely . . .

We'll bring it down with this REM tune that has the distinction of being the few environmentalist songs that doesn't suck . . .

Again, we conclude with another song about the environment that's actually one of the best songs of the post-modern era . . .

As always, thanks for reading this week, stay cool and have a safe & fun Saturday night.
