Here's a bit of cowtown inside baseball to start the weekend and a peek at what the next 4 years will look like with only 13% KCMO voter engagement.
The upshot . . .
INSIDERS WARN: COUNCIL DUDE DUNCAN BELONGS TO MAYOR Q!!!
Here's the word . . .
"You should tell your readers about Mayor Q's best trick of the 2023 election now that it's OBVIOUS to those of us who work with local government. In fact, everyone should know: When you talk with incoming councilman Duncan, you're talking to the Mayor as well."
That's a bold statement . . .
We figured a dude who The Star described as Latino, White & Black would have a bit more independence.
Here's more explanation . . .
"They're connected . . . Mayor Q's wife is related to Ducan's main squeeze. They're on the same team, they've always been on the same team and anybody who doesn't know is either out of the loop OR is straight up lying."
Again . . .
TKC was (typically) dumbfounded having no idea that such a close connection existed that wasn't explained clearly for even the smallish number of voters who bothered to show up to the polls this Summer.
"What about KC Tenants???" We asked naively.
"He's already trying to distance himself from them. It's a double cross against everybody, it's classic Q. Make empty promises, villainize any opposition and champion social justice issues when people want details about municipal policy. This time it worked. However, it's important that 6th District voters know the score because they were sold a false bill of goods . . . They're not getting an activist or fresh voice at city hall . . . They're just getting another vote for Q. Another insider."
Sadly . . . This tracks.
As we've noted before . . . KC Tenants "Power" have all but disappeared after the election and we're looking at a new council wherein Mayor Q will hold a great deal of influence without any veteran leaders to stand in his way.
Pushing incoming Council Dude Duncan behind the scenes wasn't exactly masterful trickery. HOWEVER, it was good enough to eek out a win in an election that most local voters ignored.
Developing . . .
