Kansas City 2023 Homicide #107: Gunfight Leaves Man Dead

Shots rang out this evening near the East side of Midtown . . . Police to continue to investigate the scene after a fatality was recorded.

Again . . . The 30% homicide spike continues in KCMO year-to-date as we remain on pace to break the all-time homicide record set in 2020.

Here's the first report . . .

Homicide Linwood and Forest

This evening around 530pm, officers were patrolling the area of Linwood Blvd and Forest Ave when they were flagged down by an adult female standing outside a vehicle who stated someone had been shot. The female summoned officers to her vehicle where they located an adult male unresponsive inside the vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

EMS was in the area as officers were flagged down, and stopped to render aid to the victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Additionally, at about the same time, additional officers were dispatched to the area of E 42nd St and Walnut Ave. on a sound of shots call.

A possible crime scene was located in that area, however, detectives are investigating if it is involved with this incident.

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Personnel have responded to the scene.  They will be processing the scene to recover any evidence and speaking to any potential witnesses.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 816-234-5043. Or if you wish to remain anonymous you can do so by calling the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.  There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information provided to TIPS which leads to an arrest in the case.
