'Such a great day.' Kansas City celebrates at Pride Parade amid concern over legislation

Participants and parade-goers, some caked in makeup, sequins and rainbow flags, danced through the streets of Kansas City's annual Pride Parade and festival Saturday. The parade began shortly after 11 a.m. with hundreds lining the busy roadways, closing down at least six blocks in Westport.

June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month!Kansas City's PrideFest, a celebration and commemoration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pride kicked off Saturday morning in Westport for the Pride Parade. PrideFest's signature parade attracted thousands. The weekend event features a main stage with live entertainment, vendors, food trucks, family activities, and more, according to the event's website.


At LGBTQ Pride, celebration but also worry over civil rights

NEW YORK (AP) - LGBTQ Pride commemorations that sometimes have felt like victory parties for civil rights gains are now grappling with an environment of ramped-up legislative and rhetorical battles over sexual orientation and gender identity, and fears that a Supreme Court ruling on abortion opens the door to rights being taken away.


For Kansas City's LGBTQ+ community, Pride parade is about celebration and solidarity

The Kansas City Pride Community Alliance held its annual parade and PrideFest this weekend. Despite recent political attacks from Kansas and Missouri lawmakers, and a suspected pellet gun attack at a local LGBTQ+ bar last weekend, attendees used the time to get to know each other and find joy in the shared community.
