Kansas City Pretends To Vote On Troost Avenue Name Change

Given that today is all about democratic traditions and tough choices . . .

Remember that the current mayor led the effort to change The Paseo until voters pushed back by way of petition power efforts that garnered a diverse coalition of support. 

Now . . . A kinder, gentler way of manufacturing consent . . .

"In Kansas City, some are proposing changing the name of Troost Avenue. In May, the City Council approved a resolution to obtain input from residents, business owners, and property owners on the topic. The information from this survey will help inform the City Council."

Consider . . .

This "voting" is more of a focus group and none of it is legally binding.

Also . . .

If this happens, we'd like a vote on the new name . . .

Part of the "Truth Avenue" moniker comes form the inspiring story of  Sojourner Truth but that story doesn't really have a local connection. In fact . . . There are more powerful dedications to her on the East Coast . . . 

Also, we continue to contend that "Truth Avenue" sounds like bad writing from a garbage dime store detective novel.
