"The Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) Air Quality Program has issued an orange Ozone Alert for Monday, June 19, 2023. This alert indicates that an unhealthy level of ground-level ozone is expected in the Kansas City region. So far this ozone season, the Kansas City region has had 10 days that have exceeded the air quality standard, with nine of those occurring this month. According to air quality program staff, the federal air quality standard has been tightened over time, so air quality today is fundamentally better than in the past. However, the ozone standard has already been exceeded more frequently this June than in the past 20 years, when those years are judged against their contemporaneous federal standards."
