Kansas City Hits 2023 Homicide #85: Gunfire Victim Dies From Injuries

Again, we're estimating by stats according to KCPD and not the Star's cooked books that count police shootings as homicides . . . Which are NOT counted by the DOJ/FBI UCR crime reporting stats. 

Accordingly, here's the latest local fatality documented by authorities which, once again, puts on a record breaking pace for killing on local streets.

Homicide 1300 Block of Askew - LATE DEATH

On 06-16-2023, just after 8pm, Officers were dispatched 1300 block of Askew Ave. on a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, an adult male, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital by EMS at that time for treatment of their injuries.

Officers also located two subjects of interest on scene who were detained for further investigation.

Detectives from the Assault Squad and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene that night to canvass for witnesses and process the scene for evidence.

Investigation indicates the shooting occurred outside a residence there, when the victim and subjects of interest had an interaction that escalated to shots being fired and the victim was struck.

The subjects of interest were charged while in custody by the Jackson County prosecutors office.

Yesterday afternoon, detectives were notified the victim died from his injuries. Detectives from our Homicide unit have taken over the investigation as this case is now being investigated as a homicide.

Detectives will work with prosecutors to present additional investigative findings for their determination of additional charges.  Any additional inquiries should be directed to their office since they have filed charges.

The victim has been identified as Darryl G. Brown B/M 03-25-1984
