Kansas City 2023 Homicide #98: Man Gunned Down As Heat Spikes

At the outset of this week, we warned that the heat has the potential to spike local violence. 

Meanwhile . . . Record breaking homicide numbers persist. 

A quick stat check . . . 

At this time last year there were only 73 homicides. Back in 2020, the count was only 93 at this date on the calendar. Tragically, KCMO remains on pace to break another historic record for deadly violence.

Homicide - 43rd and College

This afternoon just before 1pm, officers were called to E 43rd St and College Ave in regard to a shooting.  When officers arrived to the area, they located the victim, adult male, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.  Officers immediately began rendering aid to the victim.  EMS responded and declared the victim deceased.

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Personnel have responded to the scene.  They will be processing the scene to recover any evidence and speaking to any potential witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 816-234-5043. Or if you wish to remain anonymous you can do so by calling the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.  There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information provided to TIPS which leads to an arrest in the case.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.

Officers were called to a shooting Friday in the area of E. 43rd Street and College Avenue in Kansas City. One person was killed.
