Kansas City 2023 Homicide #80: Deadly Shooting Early Monday

We're at the outset of what is traditionally the toughest part of the year for Kansas City homicide stats. The start of Summer is usually a time of year wherein there is no break from local violence and gunfire around the metro remains a constant.

Tragically, this year doesn't seem to be any different than recent Summers where local bloodshed has surged. 

Here is the first report from a homicide to start this week . . . 

5200 blk of Oak Leaf

Just after 1:30am this morning, officers were called to the 5200 block of Oak Leaf on a reported shooting.  Upon arrival, officers located the victim inside the apartment building suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.  Officers began performing life-saving measures until EMS arrived.  EMS responded and declared the victim deceased at the scene.

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Personnel have responded to the scene.  They will be processing the scene to recover any evidence and speaking to any potential witnesses.

Kansas City Police investigating overnight homicide at apartment complex

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Police are investigating a homicide in the 5200 block of Oak Leaf Drive. Police were called to an apartment building in that area around 1:30 a.m. Police say when they arrived on the scene, they found the victim inside an apartment with gunshot wounds.

Police are investigating a homicide at a Kansas City, Missouri, apartment complex.Police said they were called to the Eastwood Crossings apartment complex near the corner of Interstate 435 and Eastwood Trafficway at 1:30 a.m. Monday.Officers found one person shot and killed inside one of the apartments.This is the 81st homicide of the year in Kansas City.
