Special thanks to KICK-ASS COURTHOUSE INSIDERS for insight into an evolving controversy.
Make no mistake . . .
THE JACKSON COUNTY POLICE DEFUND THREAT IS AN EPIC STORY AND OUR BLOG COMMUNITY IS TALKING IT UP FIRST!!!
Again, we think that putting the spotlight on this is more important than mere advocacy.
And so . . . This comment was sent our way and then insiders told TKC to take a look at it.
Basically, this is the argument in favor of the defund power move in play at the courthouse . . .
"KCPD has a $200M+ budget. They are unable to hire a sufficient number of officers to be fully staffed.
"Providing additional funding to an agency that isn’t spending 20%+ of their existing $200M+ budget seems like a Questionable use of COMBAT funds.
"In an environment where KC has fewer officers on the street than what they are funded to have through the city budget - the city asks the county for $3M for officer funding.
"Common sense would deem that adding to KCPD funding when they can’t spend the funds they already have from the city budget needs further review before proceeding.
"Is gifting KC $3M a good use of County Anti-Crime funds in that circumstance?
"When I inquired - the answers I received were circuitous answers about the overall results of COMBAT (Anti-Crime) funding and nothing that really justified why the county should use these funds to augment a department that has plenty of money but lacks officers..."
