An EPIC Jackson County funding threat to KCPD encountered intense discussion today.
There's a lot to unpack and thankfully, Legislator Manny Abarca helps explain the situation going forward . . . Here's the most important part of the note . . .
"Furthermore, I agree with my colleague, Jalen Anderson, that the COMBAT formula needs to be reformatted. I am willing to take on this task from a budgeting standpoint, collaborating with other stakeholders. As violence continues to escalate across our Kansas City region, it is imperative that we examine internal changes to achieve different outcomes. Addressing the ease of access to guns is a logical staring point. Without concrete data that supports the notion that drugs directly lead to violence, especially considering out country's progression towards drug legalization, it is essential that we redirect our attention to the true determinants of violence and allocate resources accordingly, to not unintentionally add to the problem."
Just posted this evening, read the note in its entirety via www.TonysKansasCity.com embed . . .
And so . . . For now . . .
It looks like there won't be 3 MILLION BUCK KCPD DEFUND but better communication betwixt courthouse & police will be required going forward.
Developing . . .
