TKC Reader Double Take: Royals Downtown Stadium Not Doomed But Already Outdated

We always WELCOME articulate responses and this word sent our way stands out from the crowd.

Check-it . . .

Is the Royals stadium doomed? No but I’m worried we’re going to get outdated mess from the start.

TKC, a new stadium will be built for the Royals. It’s inevitable. You know Quinton Lucas is doing everything he can to keep the Royals in Kansas City area if not KC proper. Remember other then crime, nothing looks worst on a mayors legacy then having a major sport team leave your town. In fact in midsize states like Missouri, losing a sports team takes a toll on the legacy of a governor as well. To this very day many in the east side of the state curse Jay Nixon for doing nothing during the Ferguson riots and in keeping the Rams in St. Louis. That’s why I think a new ball park will happen. The question is where and how much.

And that’s the thing. KC has always been behind the times. Not in current pop culture. But in dealing or fixing the problems to the point they become embarrassing eyesores. Then fix the problems when the trend is already out of date. Completing the circle of stupidity.

Liberty Memorial and Union Station look great now. Honestly we should have rebuilt both of them in the late ‘80s. For half my life they were both crumbling messes. We built a new arena to attract concerts, events and a team that has never come. We should have built that along with Power and Light in the early ‘90s. We might have actually got a team then. We’re expanding a street car for some reason to help with our lack of public transportation. Again, that should have been addressed in the early’90s. So when I hear of a downtown ball park I think to myself. That should have happened 20 years ago.

Like the Braves and the Chicago Bears in the future, I think the trend will be putting stadiums in more suburban areas. That’s why I think the NKC spot is where it should go. But that’s not what this town does. It will be downtown. No personality. On looking the hood.
