Rampant Kansas City Gunfire Spikes Homicide Count Even Higher

A late death and this spate of shooting pushes HISTORIC local numbers past last year & the record-breaking 2020 pace.

Homicide 39th and Montgall

05-22-2023 just after 2:30 pm, officers were dispatched on a sound of shots call in the area 39th and S Benton. While enroute officers received a second sound of shots call in the area of 39th and Chestnut. Officers were then updated a shooting had occurred with an adult male lying on the sidewalk at 39th and Chestnut.

Upon arrival at 39th and Chestnut, officers made contact with an adult male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers rendered aid until EMS arrived on scene.

While attending to the adult male victim at 39th and Chestnut, officers were notified of another adult male victim located at 39th and S Benton suffering from an apparent gun shot wound. Officers also rendered first aid to the second victim on scene.

Both victims were transported by EMS to an area hospital where one of the adult male victims was pronounced deceased. The second male victim was listed in critical condition and updated to critical but stable condition.

There is no suspect information available at this time. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still being investigated.

Detectives and crime scene personnel are on scene canvassing the area for witnesses and evidence.

Double shooting kills 1 man, critically wounds another Monday afternoon in KCMO

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - One man is dead and another suffered life-threatening injuries in a shooting Monday afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri. Police said one of the victims was found at East 39th Street and Chestnut Avenue and the other a block away at East 39th Street and South Benton Avenue.
