Kansas City Troost Avenue Rename Moves Forward Despite Small Biz Skepticism

Council continues to entertain silly ideas about social justice and symbolic moves as we move toward election season.

However . . .

What we notice from a recent report is valid small biz concerns about the implications of the name change.

Check more deets regarding the process so far that has only captured favor amongst Twitter activists . . .

The proposal will go on for a vote at the full Kansas City Council. If passed, the city manager would have to report back on the input within 45 days.

After that, there could be a separate official vote on any ordinance to change the name. However, no proposal like that is currently on the table.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Troost Avenue, the recognizable, well-known thoroughfare in Kansas City, could be on its way to a name change. On Wednesday, the Kansas City Neighborhood Planning and Development Committee advanced a plan to seek community input before making a final decision. City council advances resolution to rename Troost Avenue to Truth Avenue

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City, Missouri, is one step closer to renaming Troost Avenue after the City Council unanimously passed a resolution Thursday directing City Manager Brian Platt to gather stakeholder input. A petition to rename the street, whose namesake was a slave owner, to Truth Avenue has gathered 1,665 signatures as of May 18.
