One of the many organizations working to help is Wayside Waifs, with its rescue and response unit. But as rescuing continues, coupled with adoption numbers down nationwide, Wayside Waifs is seeing a lot of overcrowding.

Shawnee man battling kidney disease for 8 years matches with niece for transplant

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - It can be hard to imagine the feeling when you're told you need an organ transplant, but that's the reality for a Shawnee man battling kidney disease. KSHB 41 first talked to Stephen Thon in November, and found out he's been on the transplant list for two years "I would be so thankful, beyond words to have someone donate their kidney," Thon said in November.

The Center for Developmentally Disabled is building four-bedroom family houses across Kansas City that are designed to help people with disabilities live with greater independence.


Elmwood Cemetery - Leaving No Stones Down

On August 14th, 1877, Cornelia Francis Haight Bancroft passed away at the tender age of 30. She was buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Northeast Kansas City, Missouri. The Cemetery was only 3 years old at the time. She was buried next to her son Charles who died in 1875 at only 4 months of age.
