So . . .
Mayor Q and his allies on council are hoping that 30 MILLION BUCKS worth of taxpayer cash will help them stop violence.
Even better . . .
CHECK THIS OPEN CALL FOR PROPOSALS HOPING TO KEEP YOUNGSTERS OUT OF TROUBLE!!!
It's not a bad idea but nothing that we haven't seen before . . . From "Mayor's Nights" to extending community center activity hours.
We can hope this works to keep youngsters safe . . . But a quick peek at the KCPD blue sheet shows us that deadly violence typically involves YOUNG ADULTS and they aren't likely to be involved in this kind local community based efforts.
Forgive us . . . But there's also a legit question about taxpayer spending aimed at providing resources for other people's youngsters when so many residents have loudly pleaded for the hiring of more police officers. Like it or not, there's a very distinct difference from what the public is asking for vs. the social service effort Mayor Q has promoted.
Again . . .
It's still important to keep youngsters away from danger and IF this helps it MIGHT be worth it.
Here's the word . . .
"Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, Councilwoman Ryana Parks-Shaw, Councilman Brandon Ellington, and Health Department Director Dr. Marvia Jones announce the youth violence prevention RFP is open for organizations to apply for funding to provide youth ages 5-16 with summer programming and activities to keep them safe and busy. The deadline for proposal submissions is May 22. This is just one step in Kansas City government's overall violence prevention plan."
