Kansas City Memorial Weekend Massacre Signals Historic Bloodshed Redux

This weekend was a warning.

Over the past few days Kansas City has witnessed the future of chaos on local streets as leaders remain far too polarized to confront the crisis with anything other than partisan rhetoric and talking points.

Let's be clear . . .

KANSAS CITY 2023 MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND WAS ONE OF THE MOST VIOLENT WE'VE SEEN IN LOCAL HISTORY AND THREATENS TO SPARK EVEN MORE BLOODSHED ON LOCAL STREETS!!!

 We're waiting on the next update to homicide numbers from police but so far . . . 

We're counting at least 9 homicides reported over the weekend with 6 deadly shootings over the past 48 hours.

Again, all of the people who follow the news in KCMO understand that the homicide count soaring ahead of the historic 2020 pace is the most pressing challenge confronted by elected leaders & residents.

A few more things to consider . . . 

- Very few politicos running for office have addressed the spate of deadly violence. 

- The answer from Mayor Quinton Lucas has been nothing more than than a repeat of legal fighting with political opponents over funding allocations. 

- Progressive leaders have now developed a shameful infinite loop. Deadly violence is dismissed with a heavy heart, inaction and nothing more than a social media criticism targeting the Missouri Republican Super-majority over gun laws that don't seem to be having the same devastating effects outside of urban STL & KCMO. 

- Our suburban neighbors ignore the carnage & admonish "Democrat cities" whilst overlooking rising violence in their own backyards. 

- Police supporters bemoan elected leaders on the opposite side of the political spectrum but haven't achieved any progress in boosting law enforcement recruitment numbers & hiring despite recent changes to local laws. 

The pattern that has emerged: Shifting blame FROM ALL DIRECTIONS seems to be the default standard as more dead bodies litter local streets.

Accordingly . . .

POLITICAL ACCUSATIONS & PARTISAN RHETORIC ONLY SERVE TO WORSEN KANSAS CITY'S ONGOING HOMICIDE CRISIS!!!

Over the past five years we've seen this scenario replay and the soul crushing reality is that there doesn't seem to be any incentive to address the catastrophe with anything but useless mean tweets.

What we know for certain . . .

The deadly & historic homicide surge threatens the future of the Kansas City metro. 

No real progress can be achieved amid the constant threat of violence and civil unrest. Promises of economic development and urban renewal are pipe dreams if public safety remains in doubt. Urban warfare claiming the lives of young Black men in the prime of their lives betrays politicized election season demands for racial justice, equity and inclusion. This carnage in Kansas City exposes the fundamental cowardice of the social media era wherein the slaughter of our neighbors only matters when it can be exploited in order to gain clout, votes, donations, attention, influence, and ultimately, power. 

This is a warning. 

Kansas City is headed down a path leads to the very real risk of bankruptcy, cataclysmic decay and our beloved cowtown joining the ranks of so many failed American cities that will never recover. 

What's worse is that our leadership seems dedicated to repeating the same mistakes that have brought us to this tragic moment amid an ongoing deadly crisis.
