Kansas City Launches Minority Hiring Crackdown Against META

The biz journal cleans up language a bit but this switcheroo might have bigger companies rethinking about their investment in KCMO . . . Given how quickly political fortunes can shift.

A contract, wage and labor addendum measure introduced Thursday would require that Meta's contractors collectively meet the city's annual 14.7% MBE and 14.4% WBE participation goals for most but not all of its potential data center campus — or at least "make a good faith effort to meet" them . . . The measure comes as city officials scrutinize aspects of Meta's project that went largely undiscussed during its 2021 incentive approvals. At that time, the City Council exempted the tech giant from mandatory MBE and WBE goals, plus prevailing wage requirements, apparently without some members' awareness.
