Kansas City Homicide Count Hits 59 After Latest Shooting Victim Dies

On this blog . . .We refer to U.S. 71 as "the highway of death" because poor design has resulted in so many catastrophes and have set the stage for rampant gunfire.

The latest KCMO homicide was shot on 71 and now adds to the historic pace of local killing.

Unofficially, this is the 59th Kansas City homicide so far compared to 51 last year at this date. That's more than a 15% spike. This tragic number also represents an 11% increase over homicides in 2020 - The deadliest year in KCMO history.

Shooting victim dies days after being wounded on 71 Highway

A man has died days after being shot in the area of 33rd Street and 71 Highway in Kansas City, Mo. Terrell Farrow, 18, was shot around 10:30 p.m. on April 27. Farrow was originally reported to be in critical condition, but died from his injuries on May 3.


Kansas City's homicide count up nearly 20 percent from this time last year

Through May 4, 2023, Kansas City's homicide count is nearly 20 percent higher than it was from this point in 2022. After Kansas City, Mo., police said a victim from a shooting on 71 Highway died from his injuries on Wednesday, the number is 10 higher from this point last year.
