What many of us fail to realize is the long-term cost of war, especially in terms of human life.

A new report from the "Costs of War" project at Brown University’s Watson Institute for International & Public Affairs, for instance, describes the carnage that the post-9/11 wars have cost humanity -- what the report calls "indirect deaths."
