2 Raytown, Missouri residents plead guilty to Covid-19 fraud conspiracy case

Two Raytown, Mo., residents have pleaded guilty to a Covid-19 fraud conspiracy that resulted in thousands of dollars in fraudulent loans being issued. Deanna N. Brand, 27, and Jason Collins, 26, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Both admitted they participated in a conspiracy to defraud the U.S.


Paola High School track coach arrested, terminated following rape, child sex crime charges

PAOLA, Kan. (KCTV) - A track coach at Paola High School was taken into custody Wednesday by the Paola Police Department and charged with multiple sex crimes. The 46-year-old man, Chad E. Kelsey, was charged with two counts of rape, aggravated indecent liberties with a child and unlawful sexual relations.


Clay County deputies confiscate bullet, unloaded gun from student at Golden Oaks Elementary

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Clay County deputies confiscated a bullet and unloaded gun from Golden Oaks Elementary School on Monday, according to the North Kansas City Public Schools district. According to the district, the school received the report of a student who might have had a bullet in their backpack while at the school.


Man doing yardwork killed by suspected drunk driver in Platte County

PLATTE CITY, Mo. - A Missouri man doing yard work died after a suspected drunk driver hit him according to investigators. The Platte County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened north of Weston on Tuesday evening. Deputies said 38-year-old Wesley Teague of Rushville, Missouri, lost control of his 2015 Chevrolet Camaro.


Springfield woman who participated in Jan. 6 riot arrested for violating probation

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Springfield woman who was sentenced to 45 days in jail and three years of probation for her participation in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., has been taken into custody again for multiple probation violations. Mahailya Pryer was re-arrested on May 1 in Springfield.


Kansas killer-turned-babysitter sentenced for sex crimes against child in his care

A convicted murderer who pleaded guilty in March to committing sex crimes against a young girl he once babysat has been ordered to serve 21 years, 1 month in prison. Clifford Eugene Cox, who served part of a life sentence for the 1984 strangulation death of 23-year-old Cathryn Kessinger of Winfield, abused the girl repeatedly from 2016 to 2018, until she was 8, her father previously told The Eagle.


Man accused of ramming U-Haul near White House praised Hitler after arrest, court filings say

The man accused of crashing a U-Haul truck into a security barrier near the White House Monday night praised Adolf Hitler to investigators after his arrest and said that he aimed to "kill the President" if necessary to overthrow the government and install himself in power, according to court documents.Sai Varshith Kandula, 19, of Chesterfield, Missouri, is in custody and has been charged in federal court with one count of depredation of property of the United States in excess of $1,000.


Family of 3 domestic violence victims raise money for surviving children

KANSAS CITY, Ks - A domestic violence case in Kansas City, Kansas left two women dead and one other injured last Thursday night in the 2700 Block of North 123rd Street. 51-year-old Christopher Smith shot three family members, Penny Smith, Kristy and Chelsea Thow, then took his own life.


Advocates offer support to growing number of Kansas City homicide victims' families

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - During the last four days in Kansas City, seven people have been killed. That includes three people who were shot at a nightclub. The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department identified the victims who died following a Sunday shooting at Klymax Lounge as 41-year-old Jason McConnell, 33-year-old Clarence Henderson and 25-year-old Antoinette Brenson.
