Kansas City Contradiction: Why Are Police Supporting Justin Short?!?

Let's get this out of the way first . . .

KC politicos are always willing to play tougher with Latinos than the Black community because this cowtown has a natural disposition against n00bs. We understand & support this local character trait even if the view doesn't really apply to a townie like TKC.

Still, to preempt any criticism . . .

Nope, TKC isn't cousins with 4th District At-Large candidate Crispin Rea and this blog DOES NOT make political endorsements. In fact, longtime readers know that we've thrown more than a few insults toward Crispin over the years AND basically ran one of his old bosses out of town.

More to the point . . . Politicos in KC come and go and none of it really impacts this blog one way or another given that our biggest struggle is always to keep paying for the bandwidth & coffee which powers this dump.

All of that is to say . . . We've got more than enough criticism for every contender seeking elected office and we barely tolerate my mom's chihuahua . . . There's no such thing as a TKC favorite.

Now . . .

We want to examine one of the main contradictions confronting 4th District At-Large candidate Justin Short. The sordid topic of his police union support.

Consider . . .

As an outspoken member of the Kansas City LGBT commish . . . He's one of the most progressive candidates currently running for office.

In fact, last year he penned this criticism using a controversial term that had already been disavowed by most mainstream Democratic Party leaders . . .

"This is what we mean by defund the police."

To be fair, he was tweeting about a ridiculous robot police dog that deserves scorn from taxpayers.

But overall . . .

There's no denying that Mr. Short is decidedly liberal in his views on topics ranging from trans healthcare to an unbridled support for Prez Biden.

And here's the point . . .

Mr. Short's EXCEPTIONALLY progressive outlook provides a stark contrast to the overwhelmingly conservative perspective expressed by the police union and their Kansas City Northland stronghold. Yet, he has their proud endorsement.

Of course we understand the reasoning behind this . . .

Police union leaders seemingly fear Crispin Rea's affiliation with the prosecutor's office and the leading 4th District candidate hasn't done much to remove himself from Mean Jean's shadow.

But more likely . . .

Police union support hinges on Northland crony politics that already proved unsuccessful in the primary. Of course the cops aren't REALLY getting behind the LGBT commish leader . . . They're doing a favor for Northland politicos who are pushing Justin Short because his parents are rich and have quite a few connections.

And that underhanded strategy deserves criticism . . . Moreover . . .

KANSAS CITY POLICE SUPPORTERS STILL AREN'T SERIOUS ABOUT LOCAL POLITICS AND THEIR PROGRESSIVE CONTRADICTION ERODES PUBLIC SAFETY SUPPORT!!!

Sorry but most of the Northland doesn't eat at the 3-star Briarcliff restaurants where this kind of back scratching is respected and/or rewarded.

Furthermore . . .

We've always believed that the people of Kansas City have a pretty good B.S. detector and this contradiction is a big part of the reason that the Northland skipped the primary.

A conspiracy theorist might suggest that Justin Short is a clandestine police supporter and will betray his progressive promises . . . But there's no reason to believe that . . . Mr. Short deserves to be trusted and taken at his word when he advocates strongly for LGBT rights, tenant issues and seems to fall in line with most of the views of his activist colleagues.

However . . .

Once again police political leadership attempts to sell a contradiction that isn't the least bit convincing.

These are the same political bunglers who supported Mayor Quinton Lucas and then cried about him for years after their error was apparent. Now, they're employing a similar tactic and hoping that nobody will pay attention.

Our www.TonysKansasCity.com blog community did, in fact, notice and believes that that the sketchy strategy merits greater scrutiny.
