Jackson County Prosecutor Ponders Statue Of Slaver Former Prez

Once again . . . Apropos for #TBT we notice an elected official agonizing over the legacy of an old school statue.

Reality check . . .

TKC thinks this debate is boring.

Long ago we recommended that the county rename itself BO JACKSON COUNTY. That dude was AWESOME and certainly contributed more to local life than some ancient dead guy.

But I digress . . .

The point here is that, like it or not, VOTERS ALREADY DECIDED THIS ISSUE.

In the midst of social justice protest . . . Jackson County's people have spoken.

What is also relevant in this discussion yet unmentioned in a recent post from the Prosecutor . . . Remember that Kansas City police union officials expressed outrage when they captured suspects in the COSTLY vandalism of the statue but the Prosecutor's Office declined charges.

Still . . .

All of this his history but something to consider at this top ranking law enforcement official opines on the topic of racially charged politics and symbolism . . .

"I’m torn as to whether placing the plaque on the statue and leaving it in front of Downtown courthouse was the best solution. But whatever we do in the future, we should not fight for an upside-down view of patriotism . . . Or a history supported by dishonest reasoning and ignorance of our true American history. It’s past time for America to be on the right side of race."

During a recent visit to North Carolina, I stopped in for lunch in the town of Graham, the county seat of Alamance County. At first blush, Graham reflects Americana. It is a quaint small town. The people were friendly, and the town square drew me to the county courthouse.
