Community Alert After Olathe South Students Suffers Alleged Racial Harassment

Most reasonable people understand that youngsters can be jerks to one another . . .

Typically, we don't update on school drama . . . But here's why this episode stands out:

Not only did a report of alleged bullying earn citywide news coverage BUT ALSO there's a massive bulletin sent out to the entire community.

We don't doubt that students are jerks . . . That has always been and always will be true.

What's striking is that threats of liability and social justice complaints now force teachers and administrators to deal typical student bullying by way of press release . . . Under those kind of conditions, it's hard to see how any kind of learning is accomplished . . . Accordingly, we don't blame the school for exercising caution.

Meanwhile . . . The nation's report card continues to crumble and politics is just part of what's ruining American public education.

Here's one story out of many . . .

"We wanted to address an unacceptable situation that occurred at school involving students using a racial slur," explained Principal Dale Longenecker in the letter. "I want you to know that racism, hate speech or slurs of any kind are not tolerated at Olathe South."

The letter did not say what happened, who was involved, or the punishment from the school.

However, one student is coming forward to say he was the target of the alleged racism.

All this stuff started at the beginning of the semester in January in my jewelry class," A STUDENT said. "These three white boys from the start of the semester, they looked at me, they saw that I was Black, and they just started targeting me, harassing me.
