Surging KC Tenants Overtake Freedom, Inc. Election Influence?!?

Even in Kansas City, political power isn't permanent.

Communities, alliances and demographics shift over time and impact election season reality.

And so . . . We question . . .

HAVE KC TENANTS CHALLENGED FREEDOM, INC. REIGN AS STRONGEST URBAN CORE POWER PLAYER?!?!

Consider . . .

Both groups earned impressive wins during the primary but only KC Tenants garnered love from the New York Times along with generous TV news coverage.

Freedom, Inc. campaign workers were harder to find earlier this month but KC Tenants worked polling stations and neighborhoods with loud chants, handouts and a prepared statements for voters.

Freedom, Inc. doesn't have any social media or Internets presence whereas KC Tenants spread their message EVERY DAY on multiple online channels.

Most importantly . . .

Whilst Freedom, Inc. has more access to cash at the moment . . . Union connections and donations from local power players have started to flow toward the protest group.

This isn't just a theoretical struggle . . . There's an upcoming fight for the 5th District At-large council district wherein a Freedom, Inc. stalwart will struggle to overcome a challenge from a candidate backed by KC Tenants.

Darrell Curls is from a distinguished East side political family, he has deep ties to both clergy and neighborhood leaders. Freedom, Inc. has supported his candidacy.

Meanwhile . . .

Michael Kelley has the full support of KC Tenants along with Bike/Walk supporters and a slew of activists from throughout midtown.

This contest should give us a verifiable gauge of the political muscle of KC Tenants which does more to shift the status quo in the urban community than any place else.

And, to be fair, while Freedom & KC Tenants have collaborated on supporting candidates like Melissa Patterson Hazley . . .

Kansas City politics can often be a zero sum game wherein power & influence is rarely shared.

Developing . . .
