Population Momentum Moves Against Downtown Kansas City

Something that our blog community has talked about since the start of the pandemic . . .

DOWNTOWN IS NO LONGER THE MAIN DRIVER OF KANSAS CITY POPULATION GROWTH!!! IN FACT, THE URBAN CORE CONTINUES TO FADE AMID THE RISE OF REMOTE WORK!!!

We don't really see this as a problem given that vengeful KCMO legislation promoting "density" was imposed upon Kansas City longtime residents without consent or voter input. 

 Meanwhile . . . The numbers and crisis of downtown boosters is important to note . . .

But between July 2020 and July 2022, U.S. Census figures show, Jackson County’s population dropped by more than 1,000 people and Wyandotte shed more than 3,000 residents.

'Discouraging' census numbers show a decline in urban Kansas City while suburban counties grow

Before the pandemic, Jackson County, Missouri, and Wyandotte County, Kansas, had been growing. But between July 2020 and July 2022, U.S. Census figures show, Jackson County's population dropped by more than 1,000 people and Wyandotte shed more than 3,000 residents. "I'm concerned about that,' said Frank Lenk, the director of research services at the Mid-America Regional Council.
