Kansas City Tribute To Carl DiCapo

Amid a wave of news this week we wanted to take a moment to share more info about a legendary local resident.

The best place to start, a Kansas City landmark named in his honor . . .

The fountain, named for Carl DiCapo–a Parks Commissioner, restaurateur (Italian Gardens), and community volunteer–is located in Kessler Park on scenic Cliff Drive in Kansas City’s north end. Converted and dedicated in 1989, its composition of natural rock and spring water place it in a unique category. The recirculating waterfall was constructed to draw attention to a natural spring with a rustic cliffside setting. The natural spring was used by residents of the northeast area in the 1800s and early 1900s as a water supply.

More perspective from his recently posted obituary . . .

Carl was a VERY loyal Kansas Citian. His many achievements include serving on countless boards as either Director, Board Member or Officer including: Don Bosco Community Center, Missouri Restaurant Association, Ethnic Enrichment, Park Lane Hospital, Salvation Army, Park Board Commissioner, Liberty Memorial, Rotary Club 13, UNICO National, Cleveland University, Agricultural Hall of Fame, Native Sons and Daughters of KC, Citizens Association, KC Jazz Orchestra, JCC Metropolitan College, Crime Commission, VA Hospital, Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Corinthian Hall.

Carl was most proud of the fountain named after him at Cliff Drive in the Northeast area as well as Carl J. DiCapo Drive at Main Street from Pershing Road to the entrance of the World War One Museum.
