Kansas City Roundup: 2nd Deadly Weekend Shooting On Prospect

A few of our helpful readers noted this earlier in the day and there was a bit of confusion about the separate instances of gunfire.

As of right now . . . We're counting this as 2023 Homicide #51 so far this year. 

Here is the first report with more detail and news coverage follow-up as well . . .

37th and Prospect

This morning just after 10:30 am. Officers were dispatched to 37th and Prospect on a reported sound of gun shots. While enroute the call was upgraded to a shooting.

Officers arrived on scene and observed an adult male laying on the ground unresponsive. Suffering from apparent gun shot wounds.

EMS arrived on scene and declared the victim deceased, the second adult male victim who was shot with non life threatening injuries was transported to an area hospital.

Contributing factors to the shooting are unknown at this time.

There is no suspect information or anyone in custody at this time.

Detectives and Crime Scene personnel are on scene and canvassing the area for potential witnesses and evidence.

There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline that result in an arrest.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.

While on scene at 37th and Prospect a volley of gunshots went off in the area of 35th and Brooklyn.

An unknown vehicle fled the scene immediately following the gun shots.

It is not known at this time if this was related or not.

One dead, one injured in shooting near 37th and Prospect

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department is investigating a shooting Saturday morning that left one dead and another injured. Officers responded to a shooting call at 37th and Prospect around 10:41 a.m. and found an adult male laying on the ground unresponsive.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - One man died and another was injured in a shooting Saturday morning in Kansas City, Missouri. Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department officers responded to a shooting at 37th Street and Prospect Avenue, just two blocks away from where five people were shot in a homicide Friday night.
