Kansas City Mayor, Council Dude & Manager Start Playing Hardball

Behind the scenes and now coming to light, here's a trend that locals should watch going forward . . .

MAYOR Q & HIS ALLIES ARE GETTING TOUGHER WITH THEIR POLITICAL OPPONENTS!!!

A few examples . . .

Already on record . . .

The city manager confronts a firestorm after the dismissal of the KCMO civil rights director. On social media there are a myriad of claims about her treatment that don't put the current administration in a positive light. There's a complaint under investigation but community sentiment seems to be that 12th & Oak is now a tougher place to work under current leadership.

Meanwhile . . .

Mayor Q doesn't hesitate to call a request for police payment "one of the pettiest political hits" he has ever witnessed.

And so it's likely that his years-long feud with local law enforcement will continue . . . And it seems Mayor Q is now on a collision course with the current KCPD Chief Of Police.

And then . . .

Council dude Eric Bunch has returned to his divisive social justice advocacy via cable news network.

Even worse . . . He has a slight edge in his primary and our bloggy readers notice that he remains out of touch to most constituents. Another example: Most of the recent traffic concerns in his district were unanswered as the council dude has callously overlooked the vast majority of Westside & Northeast residents during his campaign.

Here's the tricky part . . .

Mayor Q seems strangely loyal to the city manager so it's unlikely we'll see any change unless Clay Chastain pulls off an election miracle.

Police supporters are having mixed results backing council candidates supporting their agenda. We'll keep watching to see if they can make up ground from now until the general election.

Meanwhile . . .

Kansas City should expect tougher tactics from Mayor Q and his team in their second term.

Something else for everyone to consider . . .

Most KCMO mayors end their 2nd term confronting overwhelming unpopularity.

Mayor Kay seems nice now but she and all of her allies were chased from office and unable to leverage any of their civic success.

Mayor Sly was equally ineffective during his last 6 months in office and now mostly operates behind the scenes . . . Whilst only occasionally debating his many critics on Twitter.

The point . . .

KCMO 2nd-terms are always tricky and denizens of our political discourse might not want to mistake voting returns for any kind of mandate from an electorate that's largely disengaged.

Developing . . .
