Kansas City Hope For Broke-Ass Council Election

Something our blog community noticed about the primary that nobody else bothered to consider . . .

THERE'S NOT A LOT OF CASH BACKING KANSAS CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES!!!

Consider . . .

Not so long ago all of the At-Large candidates needed more than six figures in their bank account to be taken seriously.

Now only one union-backed candidate enjoys that luxury.

Mayor Q has amassed all the big money donors . . . To the tune of more than one million bucks total. Insiders once relied on council members to do their bidding. Nowadays, the mayor's office has worked their magic and convinced power players to give generously in order to maintain a dialogue with the 29th floor.

Finally . . .

Unions still maintain the type of infrastructure that wins elections . . . It's hard to by real world operational knowledge when it comes to delivering votes.

HOWEVER THERE IS HOPE . . .

Despite tech, tweets and all manner of costly schemes . . .

WORD OF MOUTH STILL PROVES MORE INFLUENTIAL THAN SOCIAL MEDIA ACTIVISTS & BOTS!!!

We don't encourage candidates to engage in David Vs. Goliath struggles but here's what we've found:

Given that none of the council candidates have much cash and it's clear that voters aren't really engaged in municipal elections . . .

Talking with people and meeting the public still offers an effective way to spread the word about any council campaign.

Forums offer fewer opportunities . . . Door knocking and schmoozing at any public event is a much more pleasant and seemingly effective tactic from what we've seen of effective candidates who did advance to the primary.

Whilst there is no magic formula . . . Engaging with the electorate is, in fact, the not-so-secret sauce of American democracy.

You decide . . .
