Kansas City Council Candidate Kelley 'Scared' To Campaign In Northland

Possibly the most craven bit of election season pandering we've seen amid Kansas City silly season.

COUNCIL CONTENDER KELLEY CLAIMS TEEN SHOOTING FEAR DOMINATES HIS LIFE ON NORTHLAND CAMPAIGN TRAIL & AS WIFE TO ACCOMPANIES HIM!!!

Already the reaction hasn't been great . . .

TKC readers are smart enough to unpack this without much help so we'll start by merely sharing the social media statement that has created a stir . . . Check-it . . .

Normally I smile when I'm doorknocking, but not today. We're knocking in the Northland, and while I'm eager to speak with Kansas City voters, I'm also scared.

Johanna and I have spoken at length about #RalphYarl, and she insisted on coming with me this afternoon.

While I'm happy to have her here, I hate that I have to have someone watching out for me like this, especially in #KCMO.

As folks like Jenay for KC have said way better than me, the Northland is more complex (in good ways and bad) than this event.

I've seen some of that in meetings and conversations with everyone from electeds to everyday folks who call this part of Kansas City home.

At the end of the day, I am scared of what could happen to me because of something I can't change.

But I'm even more scared of what happens if I don't *try* to change the system which makes this not only possible, but inevitable.

So let's get knocking.

So, let's return to reality here on www.TonysKansasCity.com . . .

Mr. Kelly confronts a tough contest against Darrell Curls who has more urban support and represents one of the most distinguished and accomplished East side families in Kansas City.

The social justice gambit might convince some voters and turn away others.

Our only thought that we hope crosses cultural & racial lines . . .

Do we need a council member who can't do their job without the help of a spouse???

You decide . . .
