Kansas City 2023 Homicide #42: Texas Tom's Gunfight Leaves Proves Deadly

Tasty late night food run turned fatal more quickly than anyone anticipated . . .

Again, what's important is that this latest killing pushes the homicide count more than 10% than last year's historic pace.

Homicide 6900 block of Prospect

This morning at about 12:20am Officers were dispatched to 6950 Prospect on a shooting at the restaurant there.

On arrival officers were directed inside the business in the carry-out area to a shooting victim who was unresponsive. Officers summoned EMS who declared the victim deceased.

Preliminary investigation indicates that there were multiple people in the carry-out area when the victim became involved in a verbal altercation/interaction with one or more people which led to shots being fired and the victim being struck.

It is also believed there were numerous people in the parking lot at the time of the shooting as well. Nearly all of those people were gone prior to officers arrival.

Detectives and crime scene investigators are canvassing for witnesses and processing the evidence at the scene.

Detectives believe there are many people who may have heard or seen something that would be valuable to them. If someone left the scene to provide for their safety that’s completely understandable, however they could really use any bit of information to help with this case.
