There are more deets to this story but here's what's important for Sunday.
There's ANOTHER lawsuit against GCI underway as leadership purging employees in order to maintain control and secure loyalty confronts challenges from disgruntled former workers.
But here's what's more important . . .
GUADALUPE CENTER CUTS SERVICES & STAYS LOSING CREDIBILITY AMONGST LOCAL URBAN LATINO COMMUNITIES!!!
A few deets . . .
Over the weekend there was a community meetup of about 2 dozen locals who are worried about seniors getting pushed out of facilities and programs that are running out of money.
The deets are boring but here's the main point . . .
As we've noted before . . .
The new "leaders" love getting awards and schmoozing but they don't have much of a knack for fundraising and managing operations. After a couple of years, their priorities are starting to become obvious.
Guadalupe Center is in a state of decline that the organization hasn't seen in the modern era.
Behind the scenes there's a power move underway to transition the group away from non-profit status and toward a "private charity" tax designation.
The downside . . . Whilst less financial disclosure is required . . . Funding is harder to secure. Private charities are typically reserved for organizations managing family wealth for charitable aims or one main benefactor.
Don't worry . . . It gets worse.
With funds drying up at GCI . . . The new leadership now seems to be marketing their real estate assets in order to stay afloat.
At this weekend's community meeting seniors seemed frustrated because they were being kicked out of an old facility in order to make way for a rental operation.
On the bright side . . . Westside real estate is hot and a few timely sales could secure funding to keep the current cabal in power.
Meanwhile . . .
None of these politically charged power moves offer the community services that were once the mission of GCI.
The only hope . . .
There's growing concern about the direction of this organization . . . More people talking about the downward spiral of the organization will inspire current funders to take a closer look at leadership that for the moment . . . Still manages a great deal of taxpayer & non-profit funding.
Developing . . .
