Kansas City Playlist: Legal Weed & The Death Of Moral Absolutism

Not too long ago there were people who were arrested, convicted and imprisoned for trafficking marijuana.

Now . . .

Now weed isn't just legal in Missouri but earning EPIC revenue to fund the state and so many priorities from our conservative Republican legislative majority who decide how that cash is spent.

Read between the lines . . .

Missouri now runs on drug money.

For ethical purists and folks who get hung up on any particular brand of superstition, this might cause anxiety . . . Luckily . . . Doctors now prescribe weed for anxiety.

Check the headlines and realize that opponents of weed aren't just outnumbered, they're a fringe minority . . .

Missouri recreational marijuana sales topped $8 million in the first weekend

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KY3) - Marijuana dispensaries reported nearly $8.6 million in sales for Missouri's first weekend of recreational sales. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported the preliminary numbers on Monday. With the 6 percent tax imposed on recreational marijuana in the state, tax revenue totaled around $510,000 for the first three days.

Over $100 million in marijuana sales were recorded in Missouri during first month of legalization

816474 TIPS. CUSTOMERS HAVE SPENT NEARLY $103 MILLION ON MARIJUANA IN MISSOURI LAST MONTH. LOCAL DISPENSARY SAID THEY ARE STILL GETTING NEW CUSTOMERS EACH AND EVERY DAY. KMBC9 PEYTON HEADLEE WAS AT THAT STORE AT GREGORY AND PROSPECT TODAY.

Concerning Kansas . . .

Resistance against marijuana is falling flat and grassroots advocates are effectively making their case to profit from America's new favorite cash crop.

Marijuana advocates meet to promote medical marijuana in Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Advocates for medical marijuana met just off State Line road in Missouri to promote medical marijuana in Kansas on Saturday. The event was held at Our House KC at 39th and State Line road, just into Missouri. "22 feet that way, cannabis is legal," said Kansas Cannabis Coalition Education Chair, Morgan Seaman.

For those of us over 40 and rapidly approaching 50 this brings up an interesting juxtaposition . . .

The downfall of weed laws is just one aspect of recent, dramatic changes in American life amid COVID-Era, culture war upheaval.

Real talk . . . Who woulda thunk it . . . High powered execs now work at home like some basement dwelling blogger and the corner office is understood as a burden and not a status symbol.

From anti-work to drag shows for youngsters . . . Anybody who claims they understand the current American zeitgeist is lying to themselves and their imaginary friends.

And so . . .

Whilst weed isn't our thing because we're paranoid enough . . .

Tonight we dedicate our TKC playlist to the current decriminalization and legalization of marijuana that awaits Kansas and the rest of the United States as old rules no longer apply, aren't relevant and those who cling to them are doomed to defeat in a world wherein most of the old rules are going up in smoke.

Let's get started . . .

Rick James (bitch) always starts our Saturday night party right . . .

This 90s era tune from Cypress Hill reminds us that concert season in KC should be interesting this year.

To add a bit of flavor to our mix . . . Consider this old school perspective . . . "Sweet Leaf" is a song by English heavy metal band Black Sabbath from their third studio album Master of Reality (1971), released on July 21, 1971. It is considered one of the band's best songs . . . And proves that recent changes in the law are a long time coming . . . Also . . . This reunion clip is actually quite inspiring . . .

This song from 2000 is now a classic and our way to wish readers Nice Dreams for the overnight . . .

Finally, Willie Nelson proves pro-weed politics isn't just an "urban" trend . . .

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a fun & safe Saturday night . . .
