Kansas City Landfill Trash Cash: Conflict Or Good Disclosure?!?

First and foremost . . .

TKC WOULDN'T DARE SUGGEST THAT (GASP!) THERE MIGHT BE AN ETHICAL LAPSE IN KANSAS CITY LOCAL GOVERNMENT!!! HEAVENS NO!!! WE'RE SURE EVERYBODY IS FOLLOWING THE RULES AND WE'RE ALL PURE OF HEART!!!

However . . .

We'll admit that skeptics amongst our blog community are asking some important questions.

Here's the first one . . .

DID YOU KNOW THAT KCMO 5TH DISTRICT COUNCIL LADY RYANA PARKS-SHAW DUTIFULLY REPORTED 1000 BUCKS IN CAMPAIGN DONATIONS FROM MARK II TRANSFER STATION!!! AND SHE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE AN OPPONENT!!!

I guess you never can be too careful.

Also . . . Most people outside of the city manager's office don't know that council member Ryana Parks-Shaw is married to the director of public works Michael Shaw . . . But, again, we wouldn't dare cast aspersions on an elite local family.

Still . . . We credit KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS for doing the heavy lifting here and merely pointing out a bit of campaign finance inner-workings that might be worthwhile for voters to understand even if there's no alternative on the ballot.

Here is word sent our way  . . . Check-it . . .

The Parks-Shaw & Shaw Double Dream Team!!! Campaign Finance Reporting And Glorified Trash Man Power Player Family Fun!!!

Can you trust Kansas City about the proposed landfill in South Kansas City?

Sources have guided us to Councilwoman Ryana Parks-Shaw's city council campaign reports.  In June of 2022, she took $1,000 from Mark Monheiser which seemed like a big nothing burger and a $1,000 from a Mark II Transfer Station.

Is this the same Monheiser fam and Mark II Transfer Station that KMBC identified as the proposed landfill developers?

Taking campaign cash from a developer who wants something is the Kansas City way but what makes this an interesting is Parks-Shaw husband is in charge of the city's monstrous trash budget and has been on KCMO government TV telling everyone that KCMO is going to run out of landfill space in 15 years.  Does it seem odd that before this landfill conversation got going, Monheiser and Mark II dropped $2 grand on an unopposed city council race?

It stinks of impropriety when you have someone in a government executive position that can sign contracts who ALSO has a spouse that serves on that government's board.

But certainly that's not happening here, right? There are ethical protections, checks and balances that make any kind of undue influence impossible. We're happy to see Parks-Shaw has taken the first step to avoid any inkling of impropriety by disclosing the donation. Good for her!!!

We certainly hope they can be impartial. There is the potential that some might ask legitimate questions about donations to a candidate with a husband in an executive position which MIGHT lead to a potential conflict . . . Of course we trust EVERYONE is taking all the proper precautions and wouldn't mind at all if TKC raised the issue to highlight EXACTLY HOW they are avoiding any risk of ethical misunderstanding.
