Kansas City 2023 homicide total reaches 32 following recent stretch of violence

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Wednesday marked the fifth day in a row that a homicide claimed a life in Kansas City. Kansas City police were called Tuesday to investigate two homicides just hours apart. From Jan. 1 through March 15, 32 people have died as the result of a homicide in Kansas City.


2 more defendants sentenced to years in prison in child's fentanyl overdose death

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Two more defendants were sentenced this month to more than nine years in prison for their roles in a 2-year-old Johnson County, Kansas, child's death from a fentanyl overdose. On Tuesday, March 14, a Johnson County judge sentenced Jared Barraza to just more than nine years in prison in connection with the deadly overdose.


Kansas City Police Department expanding internship program to help recruit potential future employees

The Kansas City, Missouri Police department is looking for a few good interns this summer.The department is expanding its intern class to 20 after a successful inaugural year.The ranks at KCPD have fallen over the past couple of years with retirements, resignations, and a lack of recruiting classes, so the departmentThere are fresh police recruiting classes in April and July.The interns will get to see the training academy recruits go through.
