Jackson County Prosecutor Seyz 'Never Asked To Charge' Suspect Who Shot 3 KCPD Officers

We're working on other stuff in the background but it's only right that we share this comment from a public official in response to tough questions from other newsies AND our blog community.

Here's the word .  . .

Jackson County Prosecutor: We were never asked to charge Jimmie Lewis

In response to media reports and questions asked of Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas this morning, the Jackson County Prosecutor is issuing this statement to correct the record regarding our office's involvement in charging persons involved in the police standoff after three officers were injured this week.

Mayor Lucas' and other comments indicating that the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office failed to charge Jimmie Lewis regarding a 2021 incident were misinformed. My office did not receive any request in 2021 or anytime after from police agencies or federal partners to review or charge Jimmie Lewis regarding the 2021 incident. No case was ever submitted to our office.

We respect and trust the professionals within the U.S. Attorney's office as the law enforcement partner who oversaw this matter.
