TKC Teachable Moment After Apocalypse: Meet The New KCPS Honcho

We waited to blog a recent job switcheroo because it's not really news . . .

It's more important to provide some historical context . . .

Kansas City Public Schools served around 70,000 students enrolled at the end of the 1960s.

Starting in 1985 a series of controversial desegregation rulings hoped to boost the number of students which had plummeted to around 35,000.

None of it worked.

Now . . .

KCPS has around 14,000 students but enrollment has continued to steadily decline over the years, and the district expects to lose anther 1,400 students by 2026. As of 2021, more Kansas City kids are enrolled in charter schools than public schools.

The life lesson . . .

Parents from EVERY DEMOGRAPHIC gave up on KCPS a long time ago. But locals are often confused because nobody has officially pulled the plug on an institution that has been terminal since the late 90s.

And so all of this brings us to the new boss, more MSM and community hype for caused that has been lost for more than a generation.

Check-it . . .
