Newsflash: No Money For Kansas City East-West Streetcar Route

The toy train is too pricey to turn East . . .

A line to the 18th & Vine District SHOULD HAVE BEEN part of the plan . . . But it looks like local transit activists will have to settle for ruining Main Street and driving a few more dozen locally owned places out of business.

"It would cost $450- to $600 million to build a streetcar line from the KU Medical Center to Van Brundt Boulevard and $6 million annually to operate, according to a report prepared for the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority."

Omaha, Neb. - Billionaire investor Warren Buffett broke with his practice of staying out of local politics to urge his hometown of Omaha to abandon its planned streetcar project because, he says, it's too expensive and not as flexible as buses.
