Kansas City Streetcar Extension KILLING Main Street Small Biz

Here's our longstanding pet peeve regarding local transit activists . . .

KANSAS CITY STREETCAR HYPE MEN COMPLETELY DISREGARD THE DEVASTATION THEY'VE CAUSED SO MANY WORKERS & SMALL BIZ OWNERS!!!

It doesn't even register with so-called "transit activists" who typically resent any critical questions and seem to have nothing but contempt for people who have invested their livelihood into the urban core.

And here's what's worse . . .

STREETCAR PROPONENTS KNEW THIS HARDSHIP WAS COMING!!! AND LOCAL BIZ STILL WAITS FOR TOY TRAIN PAYOFF!!!

So far there hasn't really been a "downtown renaissance" that will support local retail biz. The reality is that the Internets and COVID have forever changed brick & mortar biz and only the best of the best can compete in a hostile climate that's growing even more challenging.

In fact . . . Quite a few places downtown have closed.

They can't even keep a BBQ place open right next to one of the central streetcar stops inside the loop.

And so we take a peek at the testimony of KCMO hardship that has been met with silence from streetcar supporters . . .

Eight businesses on Main Street have closed in the last few months. While she can't say if the streetcar extension project is to blame, she suspects it's a major factor. As for sales, she said HER BUSINESS is doing a fifth of what they would have done in normal years.

"We have to pay the mortgage, the light bill, our stock, and we have way less customers. So, it’s making it more difficult to keep functioning the way we should be," she said.

Kansas City's Main Street mess impacting local businesses

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The KC Streetcar Extension from Union Station to the University of Missouri - Kansas City still has a lot of work left until it's ready for business in early 2025. While tracks have been laid from Union Station to just south of 36th Street, the massive project is really hurting some local businesses.
